Another day, another early wake up call. I don’t know why I do this to myself. But truth is some of the best opportunities to discover places is early in the morning when you’re one of the few people awake. The early bird catches the worm they say, But for me it was more like the early bird catches the sun rise on a hot air balloon!!!
Its been a dream of mine to go up in a Hot Air Balloon, but never seemed to find the right opportunity to do so. Either it be budget restrictions, or wrong location or just fear. I didn’t want to just go up in a hot air balloon just to go up. I wanted it to be somewhere special, somewhere worth it. What better place then in Egypt over the Valley of the Kings.
The Valley of the Kings, Located by the Nile near Luxor is where in ancient times they built the tombs of the Pharaohs or famous nobles. Still to this day they are uncovering other tombs. Its amazing how much history the country of Egypt has. They were the most powerful civilization at one point. The history is so rich yet so much of it is still undiscovered, buried under sand and stone. The stories of the past become more clear as more is found.
I really didn’t know what to expect when climbing aboard the hot air balloon, I do have a genuine fear of heights. I don’t mind going up, it’s the coming down part that scares me. But like seriously who came up with this idea of a hot air ballon, Yes i realize the concept that hot air rises, that’s all fine and dandy. Going up is easy, but how do you possibly get this ballon to descend and land reasonably? It just doesn’t make sense to me. Then the captain goes on this rant about when landing you need to hold on tight, get in the crouch position, that we might tip over or bounce around and all that. All I can think of was YEAH, MY MOM WOULD NOT APPROVE OF THIS. (Chances are she’s reading this right now, HI MOM!!) Don’t worry I made it back and I’m alive and writing about my adventure. **** Just a note, we landed smoothly and upright!!***
